Crumbs: Sausage Shish Kabobs
Gotta make dinner for the family – fast? Some pre-cooked fresh or smoked sausage plus peppers, onion and barbecue sauce is a quick solution!
Eating off of sticks is always a hit at my house. But I don't always have the time to marinate and thread together countless chicken or beef-packed skewers. So when I want to make shish kabobs in a hurry, I use cooked sausage!
My family likes smoked sausage, but kielbasa might work better for your crew. I find that certain brands often go on sale two-for-one at the store, so you could even double the recipe and have these for lunch the next day too (I told you I was looking to save time!).
Even though these shish kabobs are quick to put together, you do need to allow time for the bamboo skewers to soak in water, or else they'll burn on your grill or in the broiler. But once they're soaked, you can have your kids help thread the meat and veggies onto the sticks.
Once the skewers are ready, I mix a little water into barbecue sauce so that I can easily baste the skewers while they cook. The sauce gives the shish kabobs an added flavor boost, but you can definitely skip this step if your kids are likely to turn their noses up at sauce.
These shish kabobs grill quickly, or you can broil them inside. Serve them with rice or a salad and you've got a fast, easy dinner!
