Rice is a pantry staple for a reason – it's so versatile you could have it at every meal cooked up in completely different ways. See, rice soaks up flavors. So you can infuse the rice with spices while it's cooking. Or, mix in ingredients to cooked rice to give it a kick of flavor (Hello, fried rice!). Then again, you can keep it plain and then add a sauce on top. Still need other reasons? Rice is low in calories, with almost no fat and it's both cholesterol-free and sodium-free (gluten-free, too). Break out a bag of rice – it's time to get cooking, especially since September is National Rice Month!
