Cool Kids Stuff for Astronomy Week

We've got a sweet telescope, Star Wars planetarium, rocket T-shirt – even weird alien creature toys – all sure to put stars in your family's eyes

FirstScope Telescope

Finding a great beginner's telescope for kids that doesn't break the bank can be tougher than spotting Mercury (trust us, we looked!). But FirstScope fits the bill. Lightweight and portable, this 'scope is a throwback to Galileo's 1609 original, featuring a high-quality Dobsonian-style stand and 76 mm reflector optical tube. That means it's easy to maneuver and, based on the user pix, the quality is out of this world. Ditto the price: Just $49.95.

These ideas are great and even as our children get older it's wonderful that we supported these interests. Our son's loved this, attended Space Camp, visited Cranbrook, loved the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.

It all paid off because they just finished a very difficult college Astronomy course and they both got a B.

I'd urge parents to take these and provide fun learning paths for your children.
