Yummyfun Kooking Club For Kids

Wanna get your child into cooking? This cool mailing subscription is just the way to get them stoked about firing up the oven!

Yummyfun Kooking Club For Kids

We here at Metro Parent love mailing subscriptions. They take us back to the old days when we got more than bills and ads in the mail. Combine that with food, and we pretty much flipped.

More specifically, we're talking about fun and easy recipes – and that's what the Yummyfun Kooking Club For Kids is all about. Created by Clare Crespo, Los Angeles-based author of The Secret Life of Food and Hey There, Cupcake!, Yummyfun inspires families to let creativity flow in the kitchen. Crespo's goal is to get kids involved in the food craze – and she pursues it with zany-inventive gusto.

Every month, members get a special letter and three new recipes. This isn't generic fare. With recipes like Pencil Snacks and Handwiches, along with Eyeball Cupcakes, kids will be enthusiastic about cooking. To boot, Crespo sometimes sends surprises along (recently, it was a neat little origami place setting).

Once you subscribe Yummyfun.com – which costs a reasonable $27.95 – you'll get started with a silk-screened recipe box, customizable dividers, a wooden mixing spoon, letter and membership card, complete with the Yummyfun pledge, stickers, buttons and more.

After your kids have conquered the kitchen, they can send in photos or descriptions of their cooking creations online to The Clubhouse, Crespo says, and share their masterpieces with other members.

And why not start them at a young age? It's a great life skill – one that many people don't master until their 20s or beyond. Plus, spending time in the kitchen is a great family memory-maker.

Oh yeah, and we almost forgot: The fun and funky packaging even recently caught Martha Stewart's eye, according to Crespo's Facebook page – so we have little doubt it'll get your own kids geared up to check the mailbox!
