Holiday Card and Photo Holder Craft

Tis the season to be jolly! I always look forward receiving holiday cards with friends and family. We hang ours along a staircase on a big piece of garland, but I like to showcase them in other parts of our home, too. How do you display the holiday cards you receive each year? If you're looking for a portable way to show off cards and photos, this crafty holder will make it a joy. We've mapped out everything you'll need to create this festive project with your kids this year. Well, what are you waiting for? Get crafting!

Materials

  • 1 sheet of 12-by-24-inch plywood, 1/8-inch thick
  • Craft paint and paintbrushes
  • Kraft-paper letters to spell out "JOY," 6 inches tall
  • Glitter
  • Mod Podge
  • 6 clothespins (spring style)
  • Washi tape
  • Epoxy
  • Ribbon
  • Drill
  • Craft utility knife
  • Heavy books and wax paper

Directions

  1. Paint your sheet of plywood. While the paint is drying on the board, you can glitter the kraft-paper letters.
  2. To adhere the glitter to the letters, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the fronts and sides of each piece. No need to glitter the back; you won't see that. Work in sections for easier application. Let the letters dry and shake off any excess glitter.
  3. With both the board and letters dry, glue the letters to your board going down one side. Epoxy ensures a strong hold, but it's a good idea to place heavy books on each letter (with wax paper in between!) as the epoxy makes a bond between letter and board.
  4. Give your clothespins a holiday makeover by adding a piece of washi tape to one side. Trim away excess tape with a small craft utility knife. Using the epoxy one more time, stagger clothespins on the board and position into place. You want enough room between each clothespin to show off the photos.
  5. Drill two small holes in the top of the board. Add a piece of ribbon and you're ready to hang the holder and show off your cards and photos.
