Show a bit of affection to your kids – or your hubby, wife or parenting partner – with these spiffy chain-link bracelet craft projects

His & Hers Valentine's Day LEGO Jewelry Crafts

Do you have a brother-and-sister duo in your house looking for some Valentine's Day goodies? Or, perhaps, is your sweetie a big kid who still loves noodling with classic snap-and-create building bricks? Well, this week's how-to features two easy Valentine accessory projects with a LEGO theme!

Materials

Hers

  • Chain link bracelet
  • 6 2-by-2-inch LEGO coupling plates (in the left column, search for "coupling plate" under "Brick Name" in "Advanced Search")
  • Epoxy
  • Jewelry jump rings
  • Pliers

His

  • Wooden heart (found in the wood aisle at craft stores)
  • White acrylic craft pain
  • Pin back
  • 1 2-by-2-inch LEGO coupling plate
  • Paintbrush

Instructions

1. Apply a small amount of epoxy to one of the coupling plates and press another coupling plate on top of that. (We don't normally advocate gluing LEGO bricks together, but this is a special project!). Repeat this with the four other plates.
2. Carefully open the jump rings with your pliers (or fingers, if they aren't too stiff to manipulate). Insert a jump ring through one of coupling plate holes – and then into one of the links on the bracelet. Pinch close. Add a touch of epoxy if you're worried about the rings opening up. Then, add the two other hearts.
3. To your wooden heart, apply two to three coats of white acrylic paint to the front and back of the shape. Let dry.
4. Apply a small amount of epoxy to the back of the LEGO plate and press onto the front of the heart. Let dry.
5. Finally, apply a small amount of epoxy to the pin back and place on the back of the heart. Again, let dry.
