Beach Towel and Picnic Blanket Caddy Craft

Looking for an easy, compact way to tote those summer necessities? You're in luck! This simple sewing project makes carting your fabric accessories a breeze.

Beach Towel and Picnic Blanket Caddy Craft

I've had plenty of instances lately where I wish I'd had our favorite picnic blanket in my car. Impromptu picnics and outdoor gatherings can happen anywhere at any time! It's easy to keep those favorite blankets and towels ready at a moment's notice by crafting a simple, quick-to-make towel caddy that'll help corral your very necessary pieces of fabric this summer so that your family is ready for fun whenever the mood strikes. This project is great for you to make or to encourage an in-the-making sewing lover.

Materials

  • Cotton belting fabric
  • 4 1-inch D-rings
  • Sewing machine
  • Tape measure
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Buttons (optional)

Instructions

1. Start out by rolling up your favorite towel or blanket in half to get its measurements. Measure down the length of the towel and record your measurement. Cut a piece of belting to this measurement. We'll call this the body strap.

2. For your second measurement, loosely wrap the tape measure around your towel or blanket; add a few extra inches to the measurement. Cut two pieces of belting fabric at this measurement. We'll call these the straps.
3. Measure in 3 inches from either side of your body strap and make a small mark with a pen or marker. Fold your straps in half and pin the half-marks onto the marks you made on the body strap. Sew into place on either end.
4. On one strap end, slide two D-rings through the end and secure shut by sewing into place. Repeat for the other end.
5. Finish off your caddy by adding decorative buttons to the top to the handle area, if you'd like. To finish the raw edges, add a drop of Fray Check or create a small hem on all ends.
