Grateful Paper Rosettes Garland for Thanksgiving Season

When it comes to decorating your home for Thanksgiving, festive turkeys pop to mind right away – don’t they? But what if you’re looking for another design and, more importantly, DIY approach? Look no further than Stampin’ Up. This crafty company has several Thanksgiving paper-crafting products, but my favorite is the “For All Things” stamp set. With a mix of sayings and design elements, you’ve got the makings for thoughtful Thanksgiving crafting this year. You and your children can definitely make your own greeting cards too, but why not try a strand of stamped paper rosettes to display at home?

I like this set of stamps because it ranges from whimsical (“Hello Fall!”) to more thoughtful (“Grateful for You”). The clear-cling stamps work on an acrylic stamp block and don’t take up as much room as wood-mounted stamps when it comes time to store them.
Making your own paper rosettes is a great paper-folding activity and a wonderful way to use up paper scraps. The trick to remember is that whatever length you cut your piece of paper to fold, the width needs to be twice as long. Here’s how to make one.

Materials

  • For All Things stamp set
  • Inkpads
  • White cardstock
  • Paper (your choice of color and pattern)
  • Scoring board and bone folder (or a ruler and bone folder)
  • Pencil
  • SuperTape
  • Fishing line
  • Scissors
  • Circle hole punch (medium size)
  • String or twine
  • Mini clothespins

Instructions for Rosettes

You can make a rosette any size, just so long as you remember to make the width twice the size of the length. For my rosette, I cut a piece of paper that was 7 inches tall and 14 inches wide.

If you have a scoring board to use, score the paper every inch. If you’re using a ruler, make your 1-inch marks on the top and bottom of the piece and score by running your bone folder along your ruler.
Fold the scored paper like an accordion.
Cut a length of fishing line and tie in the center of your folded paper. Tie a tight knot and trim the excess fishing line.
Apply a piece of SuperTape on one half of the rosette. Fold over and place a second piece on that side.
Join one taped side to one non-tape side. (I find that clipping the other half of the rosette with a clothespin while you join the first half is helpful.)
Join the remaining side to create the paper rosette.

Instructions for Stamped Center and Stringing

For the center, simply punch out a set of plain circles that you’ll then stamp with the “For All Things” set.
Attach the stamped circle to the rosette with a piece of SuperTape.
Using a mini clothespin, often used for paper crafting, attach the rosettes to a piece of string or twine to create the garland.
These paper rosettes would also be fun attached to a napkin ring, a hostess gift bag, on a pin to wear or as an oversized gift tag. Once your family has mastered the folding and assembly techniques, these crafts can be made for any occasion.
