Reflective Trick-or-Treat Tote Bag for Halloween

Looking for a homemade bag that's sturdy – and ensures safety? You've found it. Create this DIY candy catcher for your little witches and warlocks.

Reflective Trick-or-Treat Tote Bag for Halloween

Think back to your trick-or-treating days. What kind of bag did you use? Pillow sack? Grocery bag? A homemade bag created by your mom or grandmother? I definitely had a handmade bag – but by the time I was a bit older and more adventurous in my candy collecting, it wasn't sturdy enough for all the goodies I got – nor was it bright enough for longer journeys into the dark night. Luckily, you can make a no-sew trick-or-treat bag that's durable enough for large loads of candy – but also keeps your goblins safe, thanks to reflective tape.

Materials

  • Canvas tote bag (your choice of color)
  • Iron-on reflective tape (usually found on the notions wall at your fabric store)
  • Iron
  • Scissors

Instructions

1. Start out by turning your iron on and setting it to the wool setting.
2. Next, decide what kind of design you'd like to see on your bag. I went with stripes, with one of the main stripes going all the way around the bag. Cut the tape to your desired length and work with one piece at a time.
3. With your warm iron, start at the top of the tape and press firmly down the length of the bag. Press each section for 45-60 seconds at a time.
4. Hold the tape in place with your free hand as you work with the iron. Just be careful to not burn your fingers! Let each piece cool before adding the next piece. And check each piece to make sure it has been secured to the bag, especially the edges of the tape.
5. Continue adding the tape to your bag.
6. You're all set! Now start thinking about your trick-or-treating strategy!
