Googly Eye Sponge Stamped Pumpkin and Ghost Halloween Cards

WWhile there are just a few days left in September, the Halloween decorations and craft supplies have been on store shelves for weeks now! Whether or not your family digs into a bag of candy corn the minute it arrives at the grocery store or waits until Oct. 1 to officially brainstorm Halloween costume ideas, it’s a pretty safe assumption that we’ve all got Halloween fever the last week of this month.

If your family is ready for some Halloween crafting, this week’s Make It is for you. We’re making stamped Halloween-shape cards, complete with googly eyes. Where do you get the stamps? Have your child make them! Look no further than the kitchen sink for this supply. Transforming clean sponges into one-of-a-kind Halloween stamp shapes work great with greeting cards, like we’re making, or as an addition to garland, a bookmark … you name it.

Materials

  • Clean, new sponges
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • Scissors
  • Permanent marker
  • Paper plate
  • White card stock
  • Blank greeting cards
  • Googly eyes
  • Adhesive glue dots
  • Xyron Creative Station (optional)
  • Paper trimmer (optional)
  • Glue stick

Instructions

1. Start out by having your draw child her Halloween shape on a new, clean sponge with a permanent marker.
2. Cut out the shape. For younger crafters, snip out it out for them, as sharper scissors help create a crisper cut.
3. Add enough paint to cover the stamp on a paper plate. “Ink” the stamp on the plate, making sure the entire area is covered.
4. Stamp a white piece of card stock. You can re-ink the stamp after each placement for a deeper finished result. Stamping several times in a row without re-inking results in a cool look, too. Let the paint dry completely.
5. With scissors or a small paper trimmer, cut out each stamped image into a square shape. The size of the square is up to you and your crafter.
6. It’s time to attach your stamped image onto the blank card. Using a tool like the Xyron Creative Station turns the image into a giant sticker and makes for a smooth attachment onto the card.
7. Not to worry if you don’t have this tool, though. A glue stick works just as well.
8. Add googly eyes to your Halloween shapes by adding an adhesive glue dot to the back of the eyes.
9. Your cards have been created! Who will you send Halloween cards to this year?
