Staying Up Late on Summer Nights
A southeast Michigan mom reflects on no-bedtime vacations spent eating ice cream, watching TV and planning summer fun with her now-grown daughter
My daughter is grown now and just completed her BSW from Central Michigan. She enters U of M graduate school in the fall. But we both have fond memories of our last day of school tradition.
For years, she and I would stay up as long as she wanted to with NO bedtime. Naturally, this time increased as she grew older. We would laugh, play games, eat ice cream and watch Brady Bunch reruns on TV Land.
I also would save all the cool things I found to do with her over the summer (mostly from Metro Parent) and, in between commercials, we would go through all the brochures, article snippets and magazines and plan our summer with what activities she wanted to do.
Spending time with her was important to her, and making memories with her was priceless.
