Post-Holiday Cure

Post-Holiday Cure

It's sorta hard to scrounge up hot weekend activities – especially when that weekend happens to follow one of the biggest holidays of the year. But what about when you're done whirl-winding it with the family? Or, maybe, you're looking for a post-Christmas alternative?

Try the dazzling Cirque Dreams Holidaze over at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. This jaw-dropping extravaganza melds music, acrobatics, aerial feats and more for a circus-tinged seasonal show sure to be a family holiday hit. How often can you see performers dangle from a 24-foot-tall "magical" tree? It plays through Sunday.

Got a case of the post-holiday humdrums? Battle it with The Big Build!, a Bob the Builder-inspired week of measuring, designing, building and more at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Things kick off this Saturday and Sunday with Professor Ray's Everyday Science; then, head back for tons of family entertainment every day through Sunday, Jan. 3.

Still need a few more ideas? Take the Holiday Hike Saturday at Milford's Kensington Metropark. Celebrate Kwanzaa at Detroit's Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Saturday-Tuesday. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra rocks Auburn Hills on Sunday. And – poof! – a Vegas magician puts on a family Sunday show in Canton.

Or, perhaps, take a fling through the holiday lights. The 4 1/2-mile long Wayne County Lightfest runs through Jan. 1. Head a bit further north for the traditional Christmas at Crossroads Holiday Magic, when the quaint Crossroads Village is decked in lights, going strong till Dec. 30.
