Winter Wonderland
Could be you're the sort of chill-loving family that'll find any excuse to head out into the arctic blast. Or maybe you'd rather cozy up in a toasty warm auditorium. Either way, this weekend's wintry highlights have something for you!
Take the brood for a tour of Detroit's bright holiday highlights – without ever leaving your seat. The talented Mosaic Youth Theater brings back Woodward Wonderland, the city's latest original seasonal treat, packed with whimsy, spirit-lifting tunes and more. It's at the Detroit Institute this Friday through Saturday. Over in Ann Arbor, Wild Swan Theater features Little Women, while Royal Oak's Stagecrafters offer Charlotte's Web. Both play through Sunday. And back in Detroit, the dazzling Fox Theatre offers The Great Russian Nutcracker Ballet, on stage Saturday only.
Gotta get outside? Forty super-cold cartoons and characters will greet you in fabulous downtown Ferndale Saturday: They're all sculpted out of huge blocks of ice! The Holiday Ice Festival also features live reindeer, photos and lunch with Santa, hayrides, video game challenges and an all-new Spectacular Ice Jungle in the Alley. Best of all, most events are free.
Meanwhile on Saturday, the frosty fun continues with Santa & the Elves at Rochester's Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve, where kids hunt for hidden snowmen, enjoy crafts and cookies and much more. Saturday evening in Westland, Wayne County promises its annual Family Holiday Fest & Tree Lighting, featuring the region's finest in "fruitcake bowling" and "reindeer antler wreath toss" fun. Or trek to Ray Township, where Wolcott Mill Metropark highlights Christmases past and present at Heritage Holidays, happening this Friday and Saturday, plus Dec. 18-19.
Don't forget to browse our calendar for plenty more ways to celebrate the snowy weather this weekend!
