Catch February Fever

Catch February Fever

Yeah, there's snow and slush outside. But think summer! This weekend, Metro Parent's Camp & Activity Fair will be jam-packed with tons of great stuff for your kids to do in the warm months. We'll be at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor on Saturday, and then on to West Bloomfield High School Sunday. Families meet with reps from a variety of day and residential options. There's even a chance to win a free week of camp! Don't miss out.

It's finally February – which means it's time to pay homage to Black History Month. Don't miss storyteller Ivory D. Williams – plus other authors, artists and entertainers – at the Detroit Historical Museum on Saturday. That same day, catch PuppetART's show Oh, Ananse!, the Detroit theater's take on a West African folktale. Plus, all month long, check out more activities at Detroit's own Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Institute of Arts (Friday Night Live and Target Family Sunday events all focus on African American tunes and stories), and the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn (featuring Minds on Freedom, a half-hour interactive show about the Civil Rights movement).

And the Super Bowl isn't the only big event on deck! This Saturday, Canton's International Festival returns with food, dance, music, crafts and demos galore from India, China, the Philippines, Africa, Ireland and more. Speaking of which, The Band of Irish Guards marches to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts that same day, featuring a flourish of pipes, drums and dancers of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.  And Little House on the Prairie author Laura Ingalls Wilder gets plenty of birthday goodies, with a tea and exhibit in Troy  plus Patchwork, a kid-friendly stage show in Ann Arbor.

Meanwhile, still going strong in Detroit: The Sesame Street Live Elmo's Green Thumb is playing at the Fox Theatre, while the Wizard of Oz musical at the Fisher Theatre. Either is a guaranteed "touch down" for family fun!
