Think Green – and White

Think Green – and White

We're not referring to Michigan State University basketball here (though there is a Saturday game). But this weekend definitely scores in the family fun department – from Sesame Street Live's eco-friendly show to outdoor fun in the snow.

The ticklish red guy returns for Elmo's Green Thumb, visiting the Fox Theatre starting this Friday and running till Monday, Feb. 15. Join Elmo and company – including all your faves from Abby Cadabby to Zoe – as he hunts for a new home for his sunflower, Sunny. (Hints: Family four-packs start at just $48 – and watch for special Family Night discounts this Friday, plus Feb. 4 and 11!).

And that's not the only show in town. An opulent production of The Wizard of Oz also opens Friday. There'll be no place like the Fisher Theatre in Detroit during this run, which lasts through Feb. 14. A stage take on another classic, Singing in the Rain, hits Canton Friday-Sunday, while Camelot plays at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday only.

The white stuff appears to be back – and just in time for two local snowy celebrations on Saturday. The Troy Farm Winterfest returns with sled rides, Winter Olympic games, snow sculptures, campfires, snow goggle crafts and loads more (with no-snow alternatives on standby). Or, for folks further north, try the Seven Ponds Nature Center Winterfest, in Dryden. It promises snow shoeing, nature walks, ice skating, a craft, games and more.

A few other weekend highlights include Northville's Saturday Chill-E Cookoff; the 10th annual Midwest Fathers Conference, hitting Waterford on Saturday; and a family-fun Sunday celebration of the holiday of Tu B'Shevat in Ann Arbor.

As always, check out our Calendar for oodles more to do on weekends – and every day!
