Give Thanks for Fun

Give Thanks for Fun

Looking for ways to celebrate the four-day weekend – and maybe burn off some of that turkey 'n stuffing? Gobble up the good times all around metro Detroit!

Step things off Thursday at the 83rd annual America's Thanksgiving Parade. Crowds will swarm the usual stretch of Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit and watch for that classic clown float, giant balloons, marching bands, Big Head Corps and, of course, the Jolly Guy in his jumbo sleigh. The Detroit People Mover is offering some yummy free fun for families, too. That's not the only parade in town: Santa also visits downtown Grosse Pointe on Friday, along with the Authentic Dickens Carolers. Stick around for the tree lighting and free hot chocolate, too. Or beat the Black Friday shopping crowds over at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, marking the holidays with vintage train displays and other festive goodies through Jan. 3.

Then, warm up with some seasonal stage and screen delights. Visually dazzling stop-motion film The Light Before Christmas heads to the Detroit Science Center's IMAX on Friday. This charming little flick centers on two children rescued from a blustery storm by their pal the Candleman, who shares his sage tales. Get a wry, hilarious helping of the holidays as Avon Players present A Christmas Survival Guide Friday to Sunday in Rochester Hills. And wrap up your weekend with the seasonal strains of the legendary Vienna Boys Choir ensemble, set to sing Sunday in Ann Arbor.

However you spend it, we wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!
