This Way to Good Times

This Way to Good Times

Thanksgiving Break is around the corner. Why not get turkey trottin' a weekend early?

The season kicks into official gear tonight when the Wayne County Lightfest celebrates its grand opening, guaranteed to dazzle with 4 1/2 miles of twinkling lights along Hines Drive starting in Westland. It's open till Jan. 1 (minus Christmas Day). Or take in eight decades of holiday decor – and even visit Santa in a vintage Dodge truck – as Auburn Hills' Walter P. Chrysler Museum launches its fifth annual Cars, Trees & Traditions on Saturday (running till Dec. 30). And get coniferous at Allen Park's 25th annual Festival of Trees, complete with display pines, wreaths and more.

Want to take things in a totally different direction? School your kids in plotting their own course – with a compass and map or GPS – in White Lake at Indian Springs Metroparks' keen pair of "basic orienteering" programs, on Saturday and Sunday. Over in Macomb County, the Mount Clemens Railroad Depot celebrates its 150th birthday on Saturday. And – as a prelude to next Thursday's big parade downtown – why not march down Main Street in Royal Oak? The Holiday Magic Parade returns on Saturday.

Stay tuned for next week's edition of Weekend Warriors, where we'll have your details about the Thanksgiving Day fun in Detroit!
