Festival of the Arts Family Day in Farmington Hills

It's all about free family fun at the Costick Center on April 21, 2012, featuring music and hands-on activities for kids in Oakland County

There's another election that needs your votes this year – one that's a bit more fun! This time, southeast Michigan families are encouraged to Vote for the Arts during the Festival of the Arts Free Family Festival Day at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills. Held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday April 21, 2012, this kid-friendly event includes art demos, hands-on activities and live entertainment – and of course, the chance to elect some artsy change.

In honor of this year's festival them, children can create their own Vote for the Arts buttons to wear. As for parents: Stroll through an exhibit featuring 200 pieces of art – and vote for your favorite! Like one particular piece of art enough to buy it? You're in luck – some creations will be on sale from the Farmington Art Foundation.

Sculptor and 2002 Farmington Area Arts Commission artist in residence Bernadette Marcos will be on-site throughout the day. And, with the help of kids attending the event, she'll create a clay sculpture. In addition to Marcos, potters, weavers and painters will be here – also giving demonstrations to families.

Live entertainment includes dancers from the Detroit Dance Collective and Dancing Feats, along with a clarinet choir, French horn ensemble, a pianist, jazz ensemble and more.

The free shindig is presented by the Farmington Community Arts Council, the city of Farmington Hills, Farmington Public Schools and the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce.
