Great Lakes Art Fair at the Suburban Collection Showplace
Introduce kids to fine art in a family-friendly way during this annual event in Novi, April 12-14, 2013
Kids get a chance to put all five senses to work at the Great Lakes Art Fair at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, April 12-14, 2013.
Photography, sculpture and 2- and 3-dimensional mixed media make up just a few of the 15 different mediums on exhibit in a cozy, village-style atmosphere. Finish it off with food and entertainment and you have the ideal way to spend a day with family.
This rapidly growing event showcases local artists in a "juried" fair – meaning the art was judged before being allowed into the show. Once again, area students participate in the show, displaying their creations while gaining experience in the world of art fairs.
If the little ones get tired of walking around, be sure and take a break to watch art being created. Demonstrations include jewelry, glass, ceramics and other materials. They can even participate in kid-oriented art activities throughout the day.
When bellies start rumbling head to the center of the show floor to the Marketplace Café, featuring a bistro-style menu. Then head over to the main stage for some entertainment, music and dance performances.
If you decide to check out the fair on Sunday, make sure you bring five cans of food for 50 percent off your ticket price. All donations go to Gleaner's Food Bank to help feed needy families in metro Detroit.
Strollers are welcome and parking is free for the weekend. Tickets for admission are $7 for adults and free for ages 12 and under. Event times are as follows:
- Friday: 1-8 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Sunday: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
