If you suspect your child has autism and is displaying symptoms, where can you turn for testing, therapy and support? Luckily, southeast Michigan has a gamut of autism centers to turn to, all offering an array of services for kids with autism and their families. Below, find a list of local centers to fit your family's needs, offering everything from evaluations, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy, social skills groups and parent education.

Autism Center of Michigan

The Autism Center of Michigan offers in-home training therapy, social skills training and parent support groups. Also, families can get Behavior Intervention Plans and Functional Behavioral Assessments.

Autism Collaborative Center at Eastern Michigan University

  • Hours: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday (schedule an appointment for diagnosis; also available on weekends if needed)

The Eastern Michigan University center does diagnosis and testing, runs a center-based Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy program five days a week, plus offers speech and language, occupational and music therapy, as well as psychotherapy. Parents and families can find support here, too, through Parent Share, a parent support group, Project Impact, which is parent training, and a free family educational series addressing a wide range of topics. Kids can participate in the theater and arts program, summer camp and a bike-riding program. Plus, kids accepted to EMU can take part in the college support program.

Kids with autism can get individual speech, occupational and physical therapy at this Oakland County center. Kids can also attend the Little Bridges preschool program, and Skill Builders, a small group therapy program for ages 2-4 years old. Note: Also offers Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, but has a wait list as of April 2014. Call for details.

With specialists ranging from geneticists, pediatric neurologists, nutritionists and speech-language pathologists, the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (CADD) at Henry Ford Health System has a wealth of services for your child. Children's Hospital of Michigan Autism Center

Families can find half-day, full-day and evening Applied Behavior Analysis programs, as well as therapy at home and in school. The Children's Hospital of Michigan Autism Center also has parent education courses available.

C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Autism Spectrum Disorders Program

This Washtenaw County center has many services to help with children's development and education. Find speech, occupational and physical therapy here. Also, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan/Blue Cross Network-approved autism evaluation center has a Multidisciplinary Developmental Evaluation Clinic (M-DEC), which conducts evaluations for children under 4 years old, while the Multidisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic does evaluations for those over 4.
