Buy Michigan Now Fest in Northville
Slow but steady, our state's economy is making a comeback. Help pick up the pace Aug. 2-4, 2013, by visiting this fifth annual Wayne County family event.
You and the kids can help support growth statewide this summer by attending the Buy Michigan Now Festival in Northville. From Aug. 2-4, 2013, mix and mingle with over 100 vendors who are eager to tell share why promoting sustainability and buying locally are always good ideas.
The festival will be held in the city's downtown area – Main and Center streets are closed off for the occasion – for its fifth year, which falls on the first weekend in August. The hours are noon-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
All the exhibitors you'll see are truly homegrown. In order to participate, they must operate entirely in Michigan, be headquartered here or be a Michigan-owned franchise. Examples this year range from Utica-based Mitten Munch, offering yummy trail bars, and DetroitGT, a Ferndale company making Detroit/auto-inspired apparel for all ages – to bigger names like Weathergard Windows, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Hiller's Markets, which has seven southeast Michigan locations.
Entertainment abounds at this free, family-friendly event – live music, magicians and mascot appearances, to name a few. Buy Michigan Now also showcases products and opportunities to learn in its effort to help Michigan return to its once-flourishing state.
Tykes will have a good time, too, singing and laughing along to magic shows and live entertainment at the Kids Zone on North Center Street. Hours are noon-5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Keep in mind that Friday is Family Fun Day: PAWS of the Detroit Tigers will make a special appearance, arts and crafts and chances to win prizes from local businesses are available, and tunes are geared toward the young audience.
This year's festival is complete with a Wine & Beer Garden for the adults. General admission is free, with proceeds from other on-site sales going toward funding for Buy Michigan Now.
