Dexter Daze Summer Festival

Returning Aug. 10-12, 2012, this annual fair celebrates its 40th anniversary with a big parade, art, blowout raffles, music and family fun

It's the big 4-0 for this annual Washtenaw County event! Far from being over the hill, the Dexter Daze Summer Festival community fair amps up the fun with 100-plus booths of artisans and crafters, plus free entertainment for the whole family. The activities are set in Monument Park and happen Aug. 10-12, 2012.

The times for this year's event are as follows:

  • Friday: noon-11 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m.-11 p.m.

Artist vendors, local business booths and a big parade are among the perennial favorite events at this festival.

The artist booths will boast a wide range of art on display. Featured displays will include face painting, caricatures, Belly's Beautiful tattoos, dolls, nature photographs, beads and jewels – and much more.

Be sure to stop by those Dexter business vendors, too, to receive small giveaways and prizes. Not only could you take home something nifty, but you're also supporting local shops.

And be sure to catch the Dexter Daze Parade, stepping off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. This spectacle will showcase all that Dexter has to offer. Floats, bands, horses and tractors are just a few of the highlights in this year's parade. It's advised to arrive early and to visit the parade map on the festival's website, in advance, to see the locations each attraction will be in. Some parts of the parade are segmented into different streets, so there's plenty to check out!

And, finally, the annual Dexter Rotary Playhouse Raffle takes place on at the gazebo at 7 p.m. on Aug. 11. Tickets cost $5 each or get five for $20. Only 3,000 will be sold at area merchant booths – once they're gone, they're gone! Not to be outdone, the Dexter Kiwanis Raffle offers $10 tickets or five for $40. For this one, the top grand prize is $10,000 (second prize snags $1,000 and third prize gets $500; not too shabby).
