Dragon on the Lake Festival in Lake Orion

Community connections, art, entertainment and boating fun all await at this family year's fest, which runs the weekend of Aug. 23-25, 2013

Fire-breathing dragons: Think they don't exist? Dragon on the Lake returns to Lake Orion Aug. 23-25, 2013 to prove the disbelievers wrong!

A lighted boat parade gets the party started on Friday at dusk. Watch in awe as, indeed, a dazzling fire-breathing dragon leads a parade of beautifully lit boats around the shoreline of Lake Orion. Then, grown-ups may choose to wander over to the Dragon Pub throughout the festivities on Friday to participate in the charity casino night from 7 to 11:30 p.m.

Family-friendly daytime festivities then run 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

The Kidz Zone is the place to be for your little ones to get their faces painted, see live performances by Darius the Chinese Dragon, take a ride on a llama and see puppet and magic shows right before their eyes.

Teens will dig the Xtreme Zone, featuring henna tattooing, robot demos, flight simulators and extremely fun inflatables.

Sunday brings the excitement of dragon boat races that set sail at 9:30 a.m., with plenty of boating fun including a Jet Ski show and a day chock-full of boats zipping over the lake.

And check out the art fair all weekend long, too, on Broadway and Flint streets from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. – and keep an eye out for fun and fancy chalk art under foot!

The fun all happens in downtown Lake Orion. To learn more about the 2013 Dragon on the Lake event, check out the Metro Parent listing.
