Family Market Day at Oakland County Farmers Market
Waterford hosts a free family Saturday – Aug. 25, 2012 – filled with healthy fun including yoga, fresh local produce, health screenings and more
Hundreds will head out when Oakland County Parks and Recreation shows just how simple it is for parents and kids to maintain a healthy lifestyles at Family Market Day. The one-day event takes place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at the Oakland County Farmers Market in Waterford.
More than 40 vendors from local Michigan farms and gardens will be in attendance selling an array of fresh fruits and vegetables. They'll hand out vouchers for 100 qualifying low-income families and seniors eligible for Bridge Cards or WIC to get free and discounted produce.
Parents and their kids can try out one of the on-location yoga classes taking place throughout the day. Find health screenings, too, plus exhibits and information booths. Or participate in giveaways and win prizes.
Oakland County Parks and Recreation is providing numerous inflatable activities for the kids to jump and climb on, keeping kids actively moving. Children also can climb to the top of a rock wall, play games or shake, shimmy and slide to the tunes that will be playing throughout the day.
It's win-win: Kids learn that a healthy lifestyle can be fun through moving exercises, while parents discover that they can help their families live a healthy lifestyle and boost the economy by buying fresh produce from local farms and gardens – all while staying on budget.
