Palmer Park Log Cabin Day in Detroit

To celebrate the Michigan's Log Cabin Day, People for Palmer Park holds its third  Palmer Park Log Cabin Day. PPF and the City of Detroit open Palmer Park's historic 1800s log cabin (closed some 30 years) for a rare tour. This celebration of history, nature and family features:

  • Free ice cream to the first 500, from Guernsey Dairy Farms and Calder Dairy (both made in the Detroit area)
  • The 102nd USCT Co. B Civil War Black History Group
  • Square dancing by students at a local middle school
  • Wayne State University theater students/alumni re-enacting the roles of senator and Mrs. Palmer
  • Tours on the main floor of the log cabin with historians and period-attired guides
  • Hat and bonnet-making station
  • Mad Hatter & Bonnet parade/contest
  • African-American quilting exhibit and demo
  • Native American photo exhibit and info
  • Live music by Rootstand
  • Raffle for a Detroit Bike Co. bicycle
  • Old-fashioned organic popcorn from Mystic Kettle Corn
  • Organic mini-candied apples from Chewy's Gourmet Apples
