Big Bright Light Show in Rochester
Take the kids to this luminescent holiday event in downtown Rochester, running Nov. 26, 2012-Jan. 6, 2013
The Big, Bright Light Show, the holiday event that lights up all of downtown Rochester with more than a million radiant, twinkling bulbs, is back again this year for its seventh year, Nov. 26, 2012-Jan. 6, 2013.
Every night from 6 p.m. to midnight, families can flock to the downtown area to see the buildings on Main Street from South Bridge to Romeo Road, and on Fourth Street from Walnut to Water streets decked out for Christmas. The display is "unlike any other in the Midwest," according to the city's website, and features 1.5 million bulbs.
The free event kicks off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the city's 40th Lagniappe event, where Rochester businesses offer "a little something extra" (what Lagniappe means in Creole) to their customers as a thank you for shopping there throughout the year.
And what would a light display be without a glimmering Christmas tree on site? The city will decorate the Christmas tree on University Drive with tons of lights, making it into the "Dazzling Tree of Lights," the website says.
Guess who's stopping by Rochester to visit with the good little girls and boys? Santa will be at the event from 6 p.m. to midnight on Nov. 26 for a special appearance!
So whether you decide to walk down the sparkling streets or stay warm in the car and drive through downtown, you'll be dazzled by the annual display.
