The Rink at Campus Martius Park Ice Skating in Detroit

Kids, parents and the entire family will love the festive winter fun that's in store Nov. 16, 2012 till March 3, 2013 in the heart of downtown

Button up your coats and strap up those skates for a spin around Detroit's very own The Rink at Campus Martius Park, now open for the 2012-13 winter season. Things are in swing from Nov. 16, 2012 through March 3, 2013.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Detroit, this local favorite provides a great winter outing for families – and can be just one stop on a fun trip downtown.

The rink, patterned after the famous skating spot at Rockefeller Center in New York City (but bigger, believe it or not!), is 60-by-120 feet and can accommodate up to 200 skaters at any time.

Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest, but stop by any afternoon and you'll find plenty of room to zip and spin – and it's a perfect time for little ones to practice their skating basics without as much traffic.

After you've worked up an appetite, there are dozens of restaurants within easy walking distance, from the on-site Fountain Bistro to the famous American and National Coney Island hot dog spots or Hard Rock Cafe. You’ll only be blocks away from Greektown, too.

Don't have a pair of ice skates? Not a problem: You can rent them at the rink for $3.

Admission is $7 for ages 13-49, $6 for kids ages 12 and younger and $6 for folks ages 50 and older. There's also a shoe check for people with their own skates for $2 (and they'll sharpen your blades for $10).

Rink hours, Nov. 16-Dec. 31, 2012:

  • Monday-Thursday: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m.-midnight
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-midnight
  • Sunday: Noon-8 p.m.
