Camp Kodiak is an integrated, non-competitive, summer camp primarily for children and teens with and without learning disabilities, ADHD, Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities and Asperger Syndrome. Campers come from all over Canada and the U.S., as well as overseas. Our program includes a social skills program, an academic program and more than 50 sports and activities. We build confidence and self-esteem by structuring all activities – athletic, artistic and social – to ensure success. Our staff includes teachers, psychologists, social workers, child and youth workers and recreation specialists. We have a 2:1 camper-to-staff ratio and our cabin groups are small.
Camp Kodiak is located about 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto, near Parry Sound, ON, on a 425-acre site with approximately 4 kilometers of lakefront on beautiful Moffatt Lake. Our facilities include modern, lakefront, log cabins with electricity and full bathrooms with showers.
Each session, we have 252 campers ranging in age from 6-18. Many have little confidence and poor self-esteem. Everything that is important to kids is difficult for them – school, sports and making and keeping friends. Many are hesitant to take on new challenges. We have developed a core program of 12 activities to which all cabin groups are scheduled. Campers are encouraged, but never forced, to participate in any activity. We program for success! All sports and activities are taught in an organized, step-by-step manner to ensure that all campers will be successful. Cooperation rather than competition is emphasized.
An important reason for the success of our program is our staff. Approximately half of our counselors are trained, certified professionals from the fields of education, psychology, social work and recreation. We have a doctor and three nurses on staff. They live on-site, administer medication and are available 24 hours a day.
