Girls and Boys Empowered

At Kids Empowered, we use crafts to teach lessons about friendship skills, social skills and how to bully-proof yourself. Here is founder, Kimber Bishop-Yanke, with a camper at a camp in Israel where over 75 kids participated in the Kids Empowered program and 25 counselors were trained in 2012. This craft represents the Kids Empowered BUBBLE that shows kids how to protect themselves from meanness and negativity – and how they can build their self-esteem and confidence. Each camp has its own activities and crafts based on the theme that week.

Girls and Boys Empowered offers over 75 one-week summer day camps throughout metro Detroit. Kids Empowered has completed over 500 individual weeks of summer day camp over the last 13 years. Camps are educational and fun. Each week is a different theme and crafts and activities will focus on that theme.

The camps teach kids skills how to handle mean-spirited behavior, unfriendly friends, and bullying as well as building self-esteem, confidence, emotional intelligences and to stand up for yourself, others, and what you believe in. Kids learn how to bully-proof themselves. We use crafts, role-playing, games, movies and fitness to teach these life lessons. Themed camps include Courageous Girls, Super Hero Camp, A Girl's or Boy's World of Friendship, American Girl and Friendship and Back to School camp.

The Kids Empowered camps offer kids the opportunity to learn and practice these important life lessons in a positive and fun environment. Instructors are trained Kids Empowered instructors and include teachers and social workers. All kids can benefit from our programs that will teach them social skills and life lessons that will help them manage relationships with others, be assertive, deal with problems and conflicts, and go after their dreams. Kids will benefit from having the knowledge and skills that will increase their emotional intelligence. Programs are for kids 4-14 years old.

There is a specifically tailored program for kids with ADHD and ADD. The boys program, The Dragon Academy, has over five weeks of day camp and a monthly program. There is a monthly girl's ADHD program and two weeks of day camp. Camps start at 4 years old because this is the age kid's start to form their identity. The Kids Empowered program teaches them to believe in themselves, go after their dreams, and be a problem solver and to stand up for others and themselves.
