Kids Can Cook! Your Family Farmers Market Recipe Guide

Support farmers in southeast Michigan by shopping your local market and preparing these delish recipes that kids will love.

Time to dig into some farm-fresh recipes that make eating local a whole lot easier. Whether you choose to shop in Ann Arbor or Detroit, you can find local ingredients at a farmer’s market near you.

Try out the Ann Arbor farmer’s market, which is located on Detroit Street and opens every Saturday with a supply of the freshest foods on the block. Vendors sell native plants, fruits and vegetables, plant-based prepared foods, nuts, and hot foods to all the local customers.

If you’re looking for more, take a drive over to the Saline Farmers Market, or even the Ypsilanti Market for a gathering of more vendor products — and if you’re in the metro Detroit area, don’t skip the market in Royal Oak, or Detroit’s Eastern Market (be sure to check out our full list of farmers markets for more).

At all of these places you can experience the gift-that-gives when it comes to giving back to your community — and accepting a tasty product in return! Then, after your visit, when the clock almost strikes dinner time, dish out one of these health-friendly recipes with your newly-purchased produce and let the kids take the lead with some of these lean-cuisine dishes that’ll teach them culinary skills.

Caution: keep the knives away but the mixing bowl out to play! Play around with the crafty combos of these food formulas and see what you can make together by using some of the farm staple foods.
