Birmingham Public Schools offers half-day and full-day preschool programs at locations throughout the district. Half-day programs are available at the following elementary schools: Beverly, Bingham Farms, Greenfield, Harlan, Pierce, Pembroke, Quarton and West Maple. Full-day programs are offered at the district’s Early Childhood Center, located near Seaholm High School, and at BPS Wee Care near Groves High School. BPS also offers kindergarten options, with informative Kindergarten Round Up events at the end of January and beginning of February 2012. Call 248-203-3000 for dates, times and locations. BPS offers a tuition-based program for interested out-of-district families.

“Transition to Kindergarten: Ready Children, Ready Schools” will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Bingham Farms Elementary School, 23400 W. 13 Mile Road in Bingham Farms, at 7 p.m. Learn more about research on readiness approaches to learning. Call 248-203-5818.

The district’s preschool and kindergarten programs offer a fun environment with activities and projects based on student interest. Hands-on experiments and investigations enhance scientific discoveries, while books and related follow-up activities offer additional enrichment and education. All activities are developmentally appropriate and are designed to provide a safe, caring environment while meeting the physical and emotional needs of each student during his or her first formal educational endeavor.
