Dearborn Heights Montessori Center: A School That Inspires
Visitors to Montessori classrooms often remark on the comfortable atmosphere, the peaceful tone and the industriousness of the children. These qualities are the result of a unique combination of philosophy, materials and teacher training inherent in high-quality Montessori programs such as those at Dearborn Heights Montessori Center, which serves children from toddlers through grade eight. The staff at DHMC and satellites Livonia Montessori Center and Plymouth-Canton Montessori School strive daily to inspire…
Academic Excellence: Montessori students are active learners, inspired by creative teaching and hands-on, multi-sensory Montessori materials. Programs are customized for each individual, based on the child’s gifts, skill levels and interests. The curriculum has a multi-cultural emphasis and includes exposure to the arts, music, foreign language and physical education, along with a strong foundation in basic skills.
Comfort: The classrooms are beautiful, spacious and safe. Cooperation prevails; collaborative work is a common element as the children work in small groups or pairs, as well as individually.
Community: Families have a true sense of belonging. Teachers encourage parent involvement through a series of informational meetings, parent-child events and opportunities to participate in classroom activities. The culturally diverse student body is arranged in mixed-age classes, resulting in a variety of friendships and a feeling of “family.”
Character: Respect – for self, for others, and for the environment – is the hallmark of Dearborn Heights Montessori’s programs. The classrooms are mini-societies, in which everyone has responsibilities to the group and to which everyone contributes.
In short, Dearborn Heights Montessori’s students become solid citizens, with the self-confidence, independence and sense of personal responsibility that will serve them well as adults. They flourish in a school environment that nurtures every individual and helps each child develop his or her potential to the fullest.
DHMC and its satellites are nationally accredited by NAEYC, and affiliated with the Michigan and American Montessori Societies and AIMS, the Association of Independent Michigan Schools. Montessori-certified teachers direct the programs in all classrooms.
In the summer, the schools provide programs for children ages three to twelve. Themed week-long day camps offer indoor and outdoor activities, including academic enrichment, arts and crafts, and sports.
Quality Montessori schools educate the whole child–intellectual, social, emotional and physical. A visit to Dearborn Heights, Livonia or Plymouth-Canton Montessori Schools confirms that this is indeed so.
