Lakes Area Montessori and Bloomfield Maples Montessori are well established schools with over 30 years of dedication to the principles of the Montessori Method. Each school’s philosophy is based on a strong commitment to the principles of respect, integrity, academic excellence and peace education. The programs are staffed by experienced Montessori teachers, with support staff that combine qualities of competence, warmth and experience. We offer mixed age groups to maximize the benefits of learning, to “master” concepts in an unhurried, non-competitive atmosphere. Each classroom is a beautiful, orderly and rich environment where children are encouraged to work with challenging Montessori materials in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Reading, Geography, Science, Music and Art. Special programs include Computers, Spanish, Music, Gymnastics and Yoga.

Programs:

• Toddler: Each school offers a Toddler class. The capacity is 12 children with a ratio of staff to children of 1:4. The “cocoon” like atmosphere and everything is less than 18”, allows the children to become completely independent.

• Preschool/Kindergarten: Both schools offer Preschool/Kindergarten classes. The capacity is 30 per class and the staff to children ratio is 1:10 or better. The classes are directed by Pre-Primary Montessori certified teachers with the goals of “Respect and Peace Education”.

• Elementary (Gr. 1- 5): Lakes Area Montessori offers an Elementary program. The capacity is approximately 25 children with the ratio of 1:10 staff to children. The staff is specially trained and certified at the Elementary Montessori level. The program is highly academic with advanced and integrated studies in geometry, history, biology, geography, zoology in addition to reading, writing and arithmetic. We emphasize research skills and independent learning, with a very high level of achievement. Each year students in our Elementary Program test from one to four grades above national levels in the Terra-Nova standardized tests. Prospective students must be tested to be eligible for this program.

Parents are encouraged to visit and observe. Call to schedule an appointment.

A Montessori Elementary class is a room of engaged, self-directed learners, where the student initiates and completes each step, which then becomes a habit and stays with the child. The room is filled with quiet chatter, where children are polite, disciplined and relaxed, but serious about their schoolwork.

The Preschool/Kindergarten curriculum compliments each child’s individual academic abilities. Working with the unique educational materials, the children explore and learn at their own pace. During the Kindergarten year a child works with more advanced materials and concepts, which cultivates a highly motivated child with a true love of learning.
