February Fun at The Henry Ford

February 2011 promises all sorts of fun at this Dearborn family history spot, from Valentine surprises to Black History Month events

From Valentine's Day celebrations to events celebrating Black History Month, The Henry Ford in Dearborn is the place to be this month. If you've never been to this historical playground in southeast Michigan – or if it's been a while – now is the perfect time to head out for some family fun.

Macy's Second Mondays

Love is in the air at the Henry Ford Museum! Celebrate Valentine's Day at the Macy's Second Monday I Love History event. Kids can take part in a scavenger hunt, make and take activities and storytelling. There are giveaways and plenty more – plus museum admission is free for kids under 5!

Target Family Days

Celebrate President's Day on Feb. 21 and experience all the fun the museum has to offer with free admission. A presidential-themed scavenger hunt – along with make-and-take activities and live musical performances – are all part of the family fun. In addition, discover engaging activities in honor of Black History Month. Don't miss the chance to experience the fun for no charge.

Celebrate Black History Month

In honor of the African American visionaries who changed the world with their determination and conviction, The Henry Ford offers weekend programs throughout the month. Fours eras of Black History in America – including Pre-Emancipation, Harlem Renaissance and Northern Migration, Civil Rights Movement and Contemporary Times – are highlighted through musical and dramatic performances. The weekend programs take place near the Museum gallery, which currently houses the George Washington Carver exhibit. You'll also find additional hands-on activities inspired by Mr. Carver, make-and-take crafts and the With Liberty and Justice for All exhibit.

George Washington Carver Exhibit

If you haven't had the chance to see the exhibit of trailblazing scientist George Washington Carver yet, time is running out! The exhibit, which ends Feb. 27, features more than 100 artifacts from Carver's personal life and work. You and your family also can check out animated and live videos, interactive displays and more. Give your kids the chance to learn about this remarkable man whose plant experiments laid the groundwork for research on plant-based fuels, medicines and products we use daily.

IMAX Theatre

Get immersed in the world of 3D entertainment at The Henry Ford's IMAX, where you and your family can see Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D, the 45-minute story of an ocean wave, starring nine-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater. Or journey through galaxies with Hubble 3D – and fall in love with aviation through Legends of the Flight 3D. If you've never experienced a 3D film at IMAX Theatre, what are you waiting for?
