Connie's Children's Shop in St. Clair Shores

This Macomb County kids clothing store has loads of brand names and rare finds and fits for boys and girls – from outfits to shoes to accessories

Whether you're looking inside the box or out, when it comes to kids' clothing stores, Connie's Children's Shop in St. Clair Shores is, quite literally, a multi-generational family favorite.

The store opened its doors in 1954 and has been serving the greater Detroit area with reasonable prices on top quality kids clothes since.

The store offers casual wear, a knockout selection of formal wear (including baptism and communion outfits and flower girl dresses) and a wide selection of school uniforms.

Denise Kort, the store's second generation owner, said her grandparents gave her parents $7,000 to start the shop after deciding that the area needed a children's clothing store. They named the store after Denise's sister, Connie.

"My motto is, if you can't find it here, you won't find it anywhere," Kort says.

Case in point: girls' slips. "Nobody sells those anymore," she says. And hey – especially with a pair of tights, sometimes, those satin classics just help things lay better!

But Connie's is well ahead of the curve for modern kids wear, too. Like darling clothes for all ages by Isobella & Chloe. And popular lines like Hartstrings (for girls) and Kitestrings (or boys).

In the robust shoe department, you'll find popular brands like Puma, Ralph Lauren, Sketchers, Stride Rite and Columbia. Connie's also stocks a big array of seasonal clothing, kicks and even cute hair accessories.

Sizes go from infants up to size 16 for girls and 18-20 for boys. Still not quite the right fit? No worries: The store offers alterations for school uniforms and suits, for a small fee. Connie's also specializes in the "hard-to-fit boy," offering a "deep selection of husky and slim," according to its website.

And if you're looking for a present, Connie's provides the convenience of in-house gift wrapping for only $2.

Connie's has regular sales with great deals that also help out in today's choppy economy. In fact, don't miss out on a voucher you can download to celebrate its 58th birthday.

This east-side store is a busy parent's one-stop shopping spot for every child's apparel needs!

My sister and most of my family shop at Connie's all of the time and on special occasions. Connie's has the best sales, and I especially like the fact that you do not see other children wearing these clothes. They are one of a kind.
