Outdoorama and Cottage & Lakefront Living Show, Novi

Calling all families who love nature and great Michigan outdoor vacations! These tandem shows return with tons of resources and kids fun Feb. 27-March 2, 2014.

BOGO – that's "Buy One, Get One" (free) – is a beautiful thing. And, especially after this wicked winter we've had here in southeast Michigan, when those two things herald the spring-filled outdoors, all the better, yes?

That's precisely what's in store as Outdoorama and Cottage & Lakefront Living Show once again descend upon the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, starting Thursday, Feb. 27 and running through Sunday, March 2, 2014. As in years past, admission to one event gets you into both. And, beyond cool grownup goodies to explore, there's some fun stuff in store for the kids!

Outdoorama features boatloads of hunting, sporting and fishing gear and tips. Speaking of boats, it also has a "boat supermarket," where you can buy (or just ogle) the ultimate family watercrafts. In between the shiny new outdoor toys, check out the "flying" pups of Ultimate Air Dogs, a new kids' archery range and annual favorite Trout Pond (it's $5 to cast a line). Meet some of the real inhabitants of Michigan's natural habitats, too, including critters from Howell Nature Center and Yoder's Wild Animal Display, which offers a photo op with a baby brown bear.

Right next door, the seventh annual Cottage & Lakefront Living Show has plenty of vendors that cater to all angles – whether you own a cabin, plan to rent a lakeside spot for your next family vacation or just want some Up North-style furnishings. You'll also find a fine art show and Lakefront Marketplace selling everything from take-home foods to games. The must for kids, though? That'd be The Beach – a ginormous sandbox. Here, keep your eyes peeled for the Giant Sand Castle Build, too, when two experts will be making some seriously killer sculptures.

Both shows happen at the following times:

  • Thursday: 3-9:30 p.m.
  • Friday: noon-9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Ticket costs – which, remember, get you into both shows! – are $10/adults, $4/ages 6-14 and free/5 years and under. Oh, and if you visit the official websites for either Outdoorama or Cottage & Lakefront, you can also score a $2-off-admission coupon valid for Thursday and Friday only; all you have to do is enter your email address.

If you're looking for the basics on this two-in-one event at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, breeze by the Outdoorama listing and Cottage & Lakefront Living Show details, all in the MetroParent.com calendar.
