The Lion King at the Detroit Opera House

Africa's sweeping Serengeti is recreated on the Detroit Opera House stage when this family favorite show comes to southeast Michigan, Feb. 13-Mar. 10, 2013

The music, the costumes, the dancing – Disney's The Lion King. comes to the stage at the Detroit Opera House, Feb. 13-March 10, 2013 – transporting you to a different world. Director Julie Taymor brings the breathtaking, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical to life for Detroit theatergoers – and it's a hot ticket for families. 

More than 50 million people have witnessed the journey of Simba, the royal heir, who learns early in life that tragedy can strike at any time and his destiny must ultimately be fulfilled. Simba has good friends like Timon and Pumbaa can help him along the way!

This mesmerizing, coming-of-age, story will engross you, and Oscar-winning songs, such as Elton John and Tim Rice's "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" will send you soaring above the Serengeti, completely engulfed in the experience.

If you haven't yet seen it, this is your chance to experience a realm that only Disney could produce, treating your eyes and ears to a fantastically-orchestrated event, but please be advised that children must be at least five years old in order to attend.

Performance times are as follows:

  • Tuesday-Friday: 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1 and 6:30 p.m.

Note: There are special weekday matinees at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14 and March 7. Plus, there's a special signed performance at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.

Tickets prices range from $30 to $150.
