Cherry Hot Chocolate
Give this cold-weather staple a sweet twist, from Fred Thompson's book Hot Chocolate: 50 Heavenly Cups of Comfort.
|Number of Servings:||4|
|Ingredients:||6 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup chocolate syrup
1 cup, plus 2 Tbsp., maraschino cherry syrup
1 Tbsp. confectioners sugar
4 red maraschino cherries with stems
|Directions:||1. Combine the milk, 1 cup of cream, chocolate syrup and cup of the cherry syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring until the mixture has bubbles around the edge of the saucepan. Do not let mixture boil. Keep warm over low heat.
2. Using an electric mixer, beat the remaining 1 cup of cream until foamy. Gradually add the confectioner's sugar and remaining 2 Tbsp. of cherry syrup, beating until soft peaks form.
3. Pour the hot chocolate into four mugs. Spoon the whipped cream over each serving of chocolate and top with a cherry.
