Birmingham Winter Restaurant Week

Parent date night alert: Enjoy discounted lunch or dinner Jan. 30-Feb. 3 and Feb. 6-10, 2012 at some popular eateries – and help a great cause

Hey, mom and dad: Call up your babysitter! It's time to hit the town for a discounted dinner date at Birmingham's Winter 2012 Restaurant Week – and, in the process, help feed local hungry families in need through Forgotten Harvest.

From Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 and Feb. 6 to 10 (those are Mondays-Fridays), 20 of Birmingham's most popular eateries will offer three-course lunches for $15 and three-course dinners for $30 per person – excluding tax, beverages and gratuity. Restaurants will offer specialty menus created exclusively for the city's eighth annual event. However, not all restaurants will offer lunch and times will vary, so be sure to check ahead.

This year's event will not only bring attention to the area's participating restaurants – which range from Barrio Tacos & Tequila and Forest Grill to Toast and Zazios – but it will also benefit Forgotten Harvest, Birmingham Restaurant Week's official charity partner.

For every $5 donation made during the event, Forgotten Harvest will be able to provide 25 meals for metro Detroiters in need. The goal of the "5 feeds 25" campaign is to raise $10,000, which would provide 50,000 meals overall.

Birmingham was the first city in Michigan to host a restaurant week, according to Birmingham's Principal Shopping District – and the event has gained popularity each year since. Because it continues to grow, reservations are encouraged and should be made with individual restaurants.

Check out the Metro Parent listing to find out the 20 participating restaurants – and learn more about the Birmingham Winter 2012 Restaurant Week.
