North American International Auto Show in Detroit

The 106th year of Michigan's vehicle showcase zooms into Detroit, bringing the newest generation of automobiles to Cobo Center, Jan. 19-27, 2013

For many families, the North American International Auto Show becomes an outing to remember. This year, families can create new memories at Cobo Hall in Detroit as they view the 500-plus exhibits – from all over the world – of innovative automotive technology, Jan. 19-27, 2013.

At this year's 106th public showcase, kids and their families can literally see the nuts and bolts of the auto industry by viewing the most eco-friendly, luxurious cars in the industry.

But what better way to view these auto innovations than in a parade? Each day at 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., the NAIAS will be presenting cars, local stars and some special surprises from The Parade Company, the organizers of the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Kids can check out their favorite rides while meeting television, radio and sports personalities. Plus, they'll also be able to meet a few clowns, of course!

Although entertaining, the NAIAS can also be a highly educational experience. Students can expand their knowledge of technology, science and art by participating in the NAIAS Education Day. In its fifth year, the 2013 NAIAS Education Day will offer school groups of all levels the opportunity to become involved in pre- and post-show lessons plans, brief tours by experts, hands-on activities and presentations throughout the day.

The NAIAS Education Day will take place on Jan. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and tickets are available at a discounted school price of $12 per Education Day participant, which includes a lunch coupon.

Public show hours for the NAIAS are as follows:

  • Jan. 19-26: 9 a.m.-10 p.m.,
  • Jan. 27: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 7-12 and children under 6 with a parent or guardian receive free admission.
