The Flint Institute of Arts partners with the Flint Public Library, giving you and your family free admission to this event that includes drop-in crafts, a reenactment of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech and performances by the Gamma Delta Kudos and the Kappa Leadership League.

The fun kicks off at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (located at 28000 New Market Road, Farmington Hills) as members of the community take a walk to the library, where the fun includes live performances, speeches and more. At 10:45 a.m., history performer Ruby Barker reenacts Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Poet Ber-Henda Williams will be present at the library at 11:30 a.m. Storytellers Audrey and Bob Allison entertain families with their tales at 1 p.m. And the Harrison High School Dance Company wraps up the day's activities with a performance at 2 p.m.

Can't make it to Ann Arbor for the 27th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. symposium, 50 Years Later: (R)Evolution of the Dream? No worries: The U-M Detroit Center presents a simulcast of the keynote address live from the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor. Don't think the little ones will sit still through the entire address? You're in luck: The Matrix Theatre conducts a MLK puppet workshop during the keynote simulcast.

It is quite fitting to remember Dr. King's greatness at a high school that was named in his honor. So take your family out to the Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School's fourth annual MLK tribute, "From Dreams to Reality." A legacy walk, musical performances and exhibit tours will all be included in this event!

Hosted by Henry Ford Health System, this annual event will feature author William Alexander Haley, son of Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Roots and The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Alex Haley. Entertainment by Detroit's Mosaic Youth Chorale, the Martin Luther King High School Drumline and Henry Ford Health System Music Ensemble are included in this event.

Enjoy reduced admission to this hands-on science hotspot – fun for kids and parents alike. MLK Day will be a part of a three-day run of special activities titled Sciencefest: Spectrum Sensation, that starts on Saturday and ends Monday. Children have the opportunity to discover how scientists use the many hues of the color spectrum to learn about the world.
