Hands-On Holidays: Let it Snow at Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum

Snow is the topic of this year's special winter break activities at this popular kids' museum in Washtenaw County. It runs Dec. 26, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014.

When it's cold outside, warm up – with snow! – at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum's Hands-On Holidays. This winter, the AAHOM has a "Let it Snow" theme and is giving little ones the chance to explore the world of crystals, learn to predict a snow storm and make a snow gauge that will track the snowfall.

From Dec. 26, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014, this hands-on exhibit offers fun for kids of all ages, including featured performances by acts like Zeemo the Yo-Yo Man and Ron Loyd, aka The Bubble Man.

From challenges to make-and-takes, the AAHOM has plenty for the family during winter break. Try out "Protect the Cube!" – where kids try to build a container that will prevent an ice cube from melting. Preschoolers can try a snowflake-matching challenge. Learn about the symmetry of snowflakes while cutting out your own to take home. Or learn how meteorologists predict big snowstorms – and try your hand at reporting a weather broadcast!

All activities run daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The only exceptions are Sundays (Dec. 29 and Jan. 5), as well as New Year's Day (Jan. 1) – when the hours are noon-4 p.m. Performances typically run 1-3 p.m. The exceptions? On Dec. 29 these hours are 2-3 p.m. – and on Dec. 30-31 the hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

The overall museum hours are as follows:

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday
  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday
  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday
  • 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday
  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Saturday
  • Noon-5 p.m. Sunday

Admission for adults and kids is $11; free for babies ages 0-23 months.

If you're looking for winter fun after Christmas, the AAHOM has you and the family covered. Learn more about the 2013-14 Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum's Hands-On Holidays: Let It Snow in the Metro Parent calendar listing.
