Sesame Street Live: Elmo Makes Music

Familiar family songs will echo through Detroit's Fox Theatre, Jan. 24-Feb. 18, 2013, as all your favorite 'Sesame Street' characters take the stage!

You can't put on a musical without instruments. Or can you? Find out with furry, familiar and feathered friends Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Big Bird during Sesame Street Live: Elmo Makes Music at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Jan. 24-Feb. 18, 2013.

Jenny, the new music teacher, teaches the Sesame Street gang how to use everyday objects to make music, after discovering that all of the instruments on Sesame Street are missing.

The result is quite musical. And what does music make you feel like doing? Dancing!

This year, metro Detroit monsters are welcome to come an hour early and hop, bop and boogie with an array of their favorite Sesame Street characters. The pre-show party is free with each Sesame Street Live! performance.

And the Feb. 8 show offers something unique this year: an autism-friendly performance. This event, which is the first of its kind, is part of the Michigan is Listening initiative that asks each Michigander to tell 10 other people about autism.

For this performance, production notes will be available to parents ahead of time to prepare their child for the experience. No surprises on the big day.

Additional accommodations include quiet areas for kids to take a break, extra spacing in some areas to move around – and gluten-free concessions.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Autism Speaks, which partnered with Vee Corporation and Olympia Entertainment to make the event possible.

Ticket prices are $12, $20, $25, $35 for Gold Circle and $65 for Sunny Seats.

The performance runs from Jan. 24 until Feb. 18 and show times are as follows:

  • Thursday-Friday: 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: 10:30 a.m., 2 and 5:30 p.m.

Note: There is an 11 a.m. show on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Also, there are no performances on Thursday, Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day).
