"Dr. Doss is special to my family because not only has he been all six of my children's pediatrician, he also has been taking care of my children for the last 20 years. All of my children are severe asthamatics and range in age from 11 to 33. Not only has he made sure that the kids have enough medication so that they will never run out, he is always there to listen to me when I am feeling stressed out with weekly doctor appointments and medications. He also makes sure that he calls to just check on the kids and to see how I am doing. Whenever I email or call him, he seems to always take the time out to return my emails and calls to make sure that we are all right. The youngest ones that still see Dr. Doss (say), 'That's my favorite doctor.' I have an 18-year-old with special needs. Now that she sees an adult doctor, she is not pleased. She stated, 'Mama, please see if Dr. Doss could still see me. He treats me right.' I give two thumbs up to Dr. Doss because he is the best." – Shari, Romulus

I started going to Dr. Holtrop as a second-opinion physician and never went back to the original PCP. Robert S. Levy, M.D.

2845 Monroe St., Dearborn
313-730-0070
"My son Marcellus was born Dec. 29, 2007 – nine weeks early. Needless to say, we weren't prepared for a preemie. Marcellus was 3 pounds and 15 1/4 inches when he was born and stayed in the NICU for 31 days. Thank God he didn't have any physical or developmental problems; however, he was very small and had trouble eating and keeping food down. Having a preemie is an emotional rollercoaster. As a parent you experience joy, saddness, anxiety, fear, doubt and a host of many more emotions. When Marcellus was finally given the green light to go home, one requirement was he had to have a pediatrician, and an appointment had to be made before he would be discharged. With him being my first baby, I didn't have a doctor and was just starting the process of reviewing doctors right before my labor was induced. I knew I wanted a doctor that would be close to home, so I just picked a doctor out of my physican directory and decided if I didn't like the doctor, we would find another one. During my hospital stay and Marcellus' hospital stay, I was constantly reminded how preemies were different from full-term babies and the difficult road he had in front of him. Needless to say, I had a chip on my shoulder the size of Gibraltar, because all I saw was my baby boy. We made an appointment to see Dr. Levy, and the first thing he said after he introduced himself to me and held Marcellus was, 'He's fine; he's just a little small.' Those few words made me feel so good. He didn't see Marcellus as a baby that wasn't full-term – he just saw a baby. I knew that I had chosen the right doctor for my son. He explained to me that Marcellus would be slow to grow, but he would grow. Since then, Marcellus has caught up and is a typical 4-year-old little boy. I salute Dr. Levy and his staff. They have always been respectful, friendly and caring. They even remember our first appointment and remember how little Marcellus was – and now marvel at how big he is now. Dr. Levy is a great doctor, and you can tell because his appointment book fills up fast!" – Georgya, Inkster

Vikram Mali, M.D.

Mali & Mali Pediatrics
44344 Dequindre Road, Suite 510, Sterling Heights
586-323-6300
"Dr. Vik, as my family calls him, is truly amazing. I am mom of two special needs children – one with a brain malformation and one with autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy. My daughter, who is 6, has already has two brain surgeries and has always been scared to death of doctors. Who could blame her, really, after all she's been through. But she considers Dr. Vik her friend. My son, who is anxious to talk to anyone, says that he never wants to see a different doctor again. This doctor ALWAYS returns calls. He never has made the visits seem rushed. If I don't understand something, he will call me at work at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., even when I know he's seeing patients, to explain to me the procedure or the test that one of the kids will be having. He has truly been a key factor in keeping me sane as I deal with Brian's surgeons and psychologists. My children's conditions are very concerning and the future is unsure as to if it will get better or not. However, Dr. Vik is my source of hope and inspiration. On the days when my son is crying over sensory issues and my daughter is in hysterics over her headaches, I know that when we see him, he will make me see that it will all be OK. I could literally go on and on about him. He has called on days he's not in the office. He's gone above and beyond for both my children. He truly is the best doctor that I have ever met." – Shannon, Sterling Heights

She has such a sweet temperment. My children automatically warm to her – especially my son who is very shy around adults. I am truly glad that I have her as my children's pediatrician. Sara Moussa, M.D.

Oakwood Medical Offices
18181 Oakwood Blvd., Suite G101, Dearborn
313-593-7240
"Dr. Moussa has been our doctor since my daughter was an infant. As a nurse myself, I was very careful in selecting a doctor – let's just say I did my homework. I feel completely comfortable every time we visit her office. She takes the time to explain and listen to my concerns, no matter how trivial they are. I am always able to get an appointment, even in urgent last-minute situations – that means the world to me. My daughter loves Dr. Moussa and is even excited to visit her and likes to color her picture. How many kids will do that for a person who gives them shots? I couldn't say enough great things about her and her practice; she really adores children, and it shows in her care for them." – Jamie, Dearborn

Dinesh Nayak, M.D.

Pediatric and Adolescent Center
15255 Northline Road, Southgate
734-285-3090
"My youngest son is 11 months old. From birth, he had stomach issues with both constipation and reflux that did not get better, no matter what we seemed to do. Our former pediatrician wasn't much help. She merely suggested what types of foods to feed our son and didn't seem concerned – even when he got worse. He was so uncomfortable, he didn't like his stomach touched, barely wanted to play and wanted to be held all the time. He would throw up at least 15 times a day, was extremely constipated, was in a bad mood all the time and never slept through the night. Our former pediatrician seemed overly unconcerned and the office would not make an appointment with us to see another doctor in the office. Frustrated and sleep-deprived, for our son's 9 month visit, we saw Dr. Nayak. He listened to our story and helped our child. At the first visit, he sent him for an upper GI of his stomach to diagnose the reflux and wanted to see us back two weeks later. At the second visit, he checked my son's rectum and found him to be extremely constipated – to the point of being impacted – and explained his situation to me and why he was constipated. He had us give our son enemas and started him on a laxative to help correct his bowel. He also changed his formula to a hypo-allergenic elemental formula specified for stomach issues. He had us come back two weeks later and repeat the enema process. At 10 1/2 months, he was given the all-clear to wait to come back at his one-year checkup. Thanks to Dr. Nayak, after nine months of vomiting and severe constipation so bad he would scream while pooping, being so miserable and in pain that we couldn't even touch his stomach, he is so much better. His reflux is pretty much gone, he is not constipated at all, and he is a MUCH happier baby – laughing and moving around like he never did before. He started taking steps just weeks after he started feeling better. Dr. Nayak is a fantastic pediatrician. He took the time to listen to us explain out our entire issue and the problems we had with the former pediatrician. He was very proactive in treating our son much differently than the first doctor but remained professional and respectful of her at the same time. He had us come back every two weeks to check the progress and laid out both immediate and long term plans. It shows that he actually wants to help children and is very active in figuring out a solution to help when there is an issue. Thanks to Dr. Nayak, I have a healthier, much happier and very active baby who will actually be able to have fun and be held by people other than his mom and dad at his first birthday party!" – Amanda, Flat Rock
