The series begins on Saturday, June 29, 2013, with a tune-up concert at the New Center Park featuring M.A.K.U Sound System, BombaRica and DJ sets by WDET This Island Earth host Ismael. Doors open at 8 p.m., and admission is free.

The fun picks back up on Thursday, July 4, 2013, with special events at two locations. Planet D Nonet performs South African jazz music at 7:30 p.m. at the Scarab Club. And, over at the Charles H. Celebrating a Century of Sisterhood, Scholarship & Service and The Chris Webber Collection. Catch a performance by Mike Ellison, too.

This cultural experience continues on Friday at the Detroit Institute of Arts with performances by October Babies (multicultural funk/jazz) and Feufollet (Cajun). Plus, check out the documentary Louder Than Love: The Grande Ballroom Story in the DFT Auditorium at 9:30 p.m.
