Maker Faire Detroit at The Henry Ford in Dearborn

Henry Ford Museum hosts 300 hackers and tinkerers July 27-28, 2013. Nerd-out over this year's DIY wonders, complete with games, exhibits and more.

Put out the call for do-it-yourselfers who are technologically gifted, and what do you get? The 2013 Maker Faire Detroit, heading back to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn! It's happening the weekend of July 27-28, 2013 and promises more than 300 exhibitions, all in one place. Round up the family and head to this historic hotspot to see seriously amazing gadgets and inventions – including real-life robots, cool cars, animatronics, giant board games, gadgets and tons of handmade crafts.

Whether you're a techy or simply interested in learning more, this spectacle will capture your attention and keep the kids enthralled in the wonders of the science surrounding them.

A few outdoor examples sure to wow? Witness a life-size mousetrap, the air-defying aerialists of local Weird Sisters Circus troupe, and EepyBird – presenting the mind-blowing results of mixing Mentos and Coke. There's a power racing series, too. A snazzy Maker Faire Detroit app for your smartphone lets you keep up on the latest times and attractions.

In the spirit of self-sustainability and community connections, check out the curious subject of science and the possibilities that come along with it – whether it's engineering, food, fashion or rockets. Meet the creators of what you see, who are right there to answer any questions your kid's curious mind can conjure up.

This bunch of brilliant minds transforms the Motor City into Maker City – and it's all backed by the cool DIY cats of MAKE magazine.

Ready to revel in what the future can become if our fellow humans ditch limitations and learn to really think outside the box? Check out the fair 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday or Sunday.

One-day ticket prices for members of The Henry Ford are $14/adults, $13/seniors, $9.50/kids 12 and under. For nonmembers, it's $28, $26 and $19, respectively. All children under 4 get in free.
