Michigan Elvisfest Tribute Festival in Ypsilanti

Bring the kids to jump and jive July 13-14, 2012 to the music of renowned Elvis impersonators at this weekend concert celebration of the King of Rock 'n' Roll in Depot Town

Elvis Presley fanatics, admirers and rookies alike are welcome to celebrate this music legend with performances, food and fun July 13-14, 2012 as the annual Michigan Elvisfest heads back to Ypsilanti.

Eleven award-winning Elvis tribute artists from all over the country are featured at the festival, as well as The Blues Brothers, Roy Orbison and Tom Jones impersonators. This is one of only a small number of events sanctioned through Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. – and it's right here in Washtenaw County.

From 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, attendees can enjoy some of Elvis's favorite Grammy-winning gospel songs at the Gospel Hour. A candlelight vigil is held that night to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of Presley's death. There's also a car show with classic autos from Americas Most Wanted Car Club.

The festival includes a Meals On Wheels raffle with a first-prize trip for two to Graceland, including a stay at the Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel and VIP Tour of his mansion. All proceeds from the raffle go to Ypsilanti Meals On Wheels.

Shop around for Elvisfest T-shirts, polos, hats, visors and many other collectables. Food, beer and non-alcoholic beverages also are available for patrons to purchase.

Definitely bring the little ones along. Kids' activities include skating fun by the Skatin Station on Canton. The FLY Children's Art Center from Ann Arbor is bringing along craft activities, and you'll also find face painting by Debra Golden.

Festivalgoers are encouraged to dress up and jive in their own Elvis costumes or shake and shimmy in their favorite poodle skirts.

The event takes place at the Riverside Park in Depot Town of Ypsilanti, near East Cross and North Huron streets, on the following days and times:

  • Friday: 5 p.m.-midnight
  • Saturday: noon-midnight

Tickets can be purchase at the gate for $15 on Friday and $25 on Saturday. Free handicapped parking is available with a valid pass.
