Ragtime Street Fair at Greenfield Village in Dearborn

Families take a step back in time at The Henry Ford, July 13-14, 2013, and experience all the fun of the early 20th century

A celebration of the era of ragtime music is in store for families when the annual Ragtime Street Fair returns to the grounds of Greenfield Village in Dearborn, July 13-14, 2013.

Ragtime was a popular music form in the early 20th century, a predecessor to jazz. It was a type of music different to any other of its time. This upbeat tunage will get you up and dancing with its bouncy melodies and intricate rhythms.

Boogie the night away to classic ragtime tunes and even learn a dance or two to take back home and impress friends. Performers include River Raisin Ragtime Revue and the Tartarsauce Traditional Jazz Band. Also hear the music of George Gershwin in a whole new way. Check out the Piano Cutting Contest, too, where participants will be judged on their musical abilities.

Enjoy dinner and a movie, the 1924 silent film, Lizzies of the Field – which will be accompanied by live piano playing. Watch as the chefs of The Henry Ford prepare fresh dishes of the ragtime era right in front of you, with food provided by local farmers. After dinner, win a dessert at the cake walk!

Times for the event are as follows:

  • Saturday: 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Sunday: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

This event is free with admission: $24 for adults, $17.50 for ages 13-61 and free for ages 4 and under. Parking costs $5 per vehicle.
