Benett Optometry
2000 Green Road, Suite 200, Ann Arbor
734-930-2373

My wife and I get very excited when this issue comes out, because it gives us an opportunity to brag about such a wonderful practice. Bennett Optometry has always gone above and beyond to take care of my family, and now to have a specialty doctor like Dr. Johnson Carder will keep us coming back for years to come!"

"Dr. Shaw was my son and and daughter's orthodontist. He was great with both our kids, who are now in retainers. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The appointments are in and out – we never had to wait. They have cool old-school free video games and contests throughout the year to win prizes."

– Dane M., Livonia

Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery

Michael Barnes, P.A.-C.

Children's Hospital of Michigan (DMC)
3901 Beaubien Blvd., Detroit
313-745-5538

"When taking your baby for open heart surgery, you're not all together. You cry and have red eyes and are emotional. Once we got through the day of the surgery, we were recovering tubes everywhere on my baby girl. I met Dr. Barnes, and he was so caring, compassionate and understanding to me. He explained things (so that) I could understand. He always answered all my questions and didn't blow me off or shove me away. He was very caring and a breath of fresh air. I knew he was there if I had any questions or concerns. He was so professional and personable. Let's say he made the stay in the PICU better. The care he had for my baby and the coworkers was so relieving. I was so blessed to have chosen Children's Hospital – but, even better, blessed by staff and cardiovascular team at Children's. My baby had a broken heart and they mended it and gave me her back with so much caring along the way.

She is always available, willing to listen to meltdowns (from me!) and open to try new ideas. She has been a rock for my family for years and my girls just love her. Without such an awesome advocate/doctor/friend in my corner, I can't imagine how much more difficult life would be. Dr. Donovan goes above and beyond what a doctor needs to, and we just love her for it."

Hannan Alsahlani, D.O.

Southfield Pediatrics
31500 Telegraph Road, Suite 105, Bingham Farms
248-540-8700

"Dr. Alsahlani is an excellent pediatrician. All five of our children go to her. She is very caring, extremely patient, kind and always reassuring. She takes the time with my husband and I to discuss issues or conerns and always makes my children feel comfortable. She is smart, funny and in tune with each of my child's age ranges (6 months-15 years) and relates well to each of them. She often calls to follow up to see how they are doing and even gave us her cell phone number when she saw us in the hospital. She is well known for her sleep training of infants and has successfully helped us 'sleep train' three of our children to sleep through the night! She is always available to answer our questions and goes above and beyond what we would ever expect from a pediatrician. We are very lucky to have her as our doctor. She is an excellent role model for my 15-year-old daughter and has helped her fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – and Dr. Alsahlani even got her into running 5Ks, as Dr. Alsahlani runs marathons to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dr. Alsahlani teaches the residents at Beaumont (and we have even seen her in the after-hours clinic there, too) and at the medical school, and my daughter plans on 'shadowing' her next year in her practice. We are very blessed to have Dr. Alsahlani in our lives. We look forward to seeing her when we schedule our appoinments. She is definetly a Mom-Approved Doctor. Thank you, Metro Parent, for allowing us parents to give a shout out to our favorite doctor, because sometimes – 'thank you' just is not enough!"

– Susan J., Bloomfield

29255 Northwestern Highway, Suite 100, Southfield
248-358-2410

"Dr. Banks is always professional, compassionate, attentive and very considerate of my son's stage of development. I have also witnessed this same type of care with others outside of the examination room. Dr. Crystal Banks makes sure that children understand what is being shared with the parents. She holds them accountable for being a responsible part of their own healthy lifestyle by equipping them with age-appropriate tasks that keep them engaged and help them feel empowered."

Deighton Family Medicine/St. John Providence
22250 Providence Drive, Southfield
248-849-3441

"She is very good. When I have any concerns or questions, she is always there to help me. I went through the baby blues with my first son, and she comforted me. I went through a really bad case of postpartum depression and she was there. She got me a therapist. She is great with my kids and myself. I would recommend her to everybody. I love her. She is awesome. I won't see anyone but Dr. P. Barber."

– Nicole D., Sterling Heights

Ashraf H. Berry, M.D.

Macomb Pediatric Associates
39200 Garfield Road, Suite E, Clinton Township
586-263-4010

"Dr. Berry knows my children's history better than I do, it seems at times. He can tell me which room we were in when he first met my son at the hospital. My kids and I trust him completely, which is most important with any doctor. The best way I can put it: My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and, when she was going through her treatments – which were taking too long, in the eyes of my daughter – she told my mom, 'Grammi, you need to see my Dr. Berry, he will make you all better.'"

– Cristin C., Warren

Robert M. Blum, D.O.

Southfield Pediatrics
31500 Telegraph Road, Suite 105, Bingham Farms
248-540-8700

"When I took my child to this doctor for her diarrhea and possible dehydration, he noticed my nose was bleeding through its bandage. (I had fallen and did not realize how bad it was.) He said I needed stitches. Dr. Robert Blum stitched my nose himself rather than sending me to my own doctor. He notified my doctor and got my doctor to give him a referral so that my HMO insurance would cover the costs."

Shyran J. Hines, M.D.

(Pediatrics/Internal Medicine)

Health Centers Detroit Foundation, Inc.
23077 Greenfield Road, Suite 400, Southfield
313-822-9801

"I had a baby who was born seven weeks premature. It was already difficult adjusting to being a new mom, but to have an infant born early was very challenging. Dr. Hines is the best doctor anyone could ever ask for. She is sweet, patient, kind, caring, loving, God-fearing, attentive and beautiful inside and out. She allowed me to contact her anytime I had a question or even if I didn't feel comfortable. She personally scheduled my appointments if I had to meet with other doctors. My son had tachypnea (fast breathing); due to my concerns she scheduled me for infant CPR classes. She is very cautious with her babies and treats them like they are her own. She would always see the baby if he was sick even if she had a full schedule. She answers your questions in terms where the average individual can understand. She is not only a pediatrician but specializes in internal medicine. Dr. Hines is busy but you would never know because she spends as much time with each individual as needed. She is an awesome doctor. She is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable. I could not thank her enough for being so supportive to my family. She is simply God sent."

– Dana B., Oak Park

Sheryl Hirsch, M.D.

Twelve Oaks Pediatrics
41935 W. 12 Mile Road, Suite 102, Novi
248-347-8040

"My son was born 1 pound 3 ounces and, when he was released from the hospital, I had taken him to My Kids Doc (recently renamed Twelve Oaks Pediatrics) in Novi to see another physician in the practice. I didn't know who Dr. Hirsch was. My son was so small they didn't have a pulse oximeter to fit him, so one day when I was there to see another doctor, Dr. Hirsch came up to me and said she picked up a pulse oximeter for my son while she was rounding at Huron Valley. I didn't know she knew who we were, let alone know to pick up a pulse oximeter at the hospital for him. I have been seeing Dr. Hirsch since then (1998). She has helped guide us in the best possible direction for my son to grow and be a contributing part of society. She has sent us to the best doctors and therapist around and always had an ear for listening. She doesn't hold back and tells you like it is. When I asked her how I should handle my son's questions about his twin brother who passed away, she was there for me. When he was really sick, she gave me her home and cell number. Several times she has called me from her cell phone on her way home from work. I cannot say enough about Dr. Hirsch. She is a terrific person and doctor, and my son and I are very blessed to have found her."
