Canton Liberty Fest

Enjoy music, midway games, food and fireworks as this Wayne County family fair and festival delivers the Fourth of July spirit early on June 14-16, 2012

Patriotic pride – and families! – are the stars of the 21st annual Canton Liberty Fest. This fun-packed fair returns to Heritage Park June 14-16, 2012 with loads of free concerts on two stages – including teen pop sensation Dymond Harding and Beatles tribute band SHOUT! – plus a Friday Kids Night, Saturday night fireworks, great games, food and oodles more. And, with 40,000 people expected to attend, it promises to one of the grandest fests yet!

At a quick glance, the hours of the fair are:

  • Thursday: 5-10 p.m.
  • Friday: 1-11 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Love carnival rides? Well, you'll find a whopping 24 options here, including faves like Twister and Tilt a Whirl and 2012 newcomers: Orient Express and Century Wheel. Snag a $50 Mega Band for all-weekend access. Discounted armbands are available online till noon on Thursday for $18; single tickets are $1 each.

Free concerts appear every day on two stages – including family-friendly options on the Canton LIVE stage. Thursday kicks it off with cover band Fifty Amp Fuse performing 7:30-10 p.m. On Friday, teens won't want to miss 15-year old vocalist Dymond Harding performing at 6:30-7 p.m. – plus magician Jason Abbott will thrill with two performances (5:30-6 p.m. and 7:30-8 p.m.) And on Saturday, catch international and multicultural music from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Over at the Amphitheater Stage on Saturday, be sure to catch SHOUT! A Fantastic Tribute to the Fab Four!, performing 8-10 p.m. Saturday. This talented crew recreates Beatlemania right before your eyes.

On the food front: Starting Friday, sink your teeth into corn dogs, elephant ears and roasted almonds. Or enjoy eats from local restaurants with the Taste of Canton and Marketplace shopping on Friday and Saturday. Canton firefighters also host a Friday spaghetti dinner ($7/adults and teens, $5/ages 5-12 and free/4 and under) – and on Saturday, Canton Lions Club hold a pancake breakfast in Heritage Park (7-11 a.m.). Oh – and don't forget that closing-night "Chicken and the (Fire) Works" dinner.

Just for wee ones: Friday is Kids Night! Tykes are treated to a petting farm, camel rides, exotic exhibits and bird encounter at the west end of the large pond – plus entertaining stilt walkers. Kids can also create superhero masks and squirt-gun art with the D&M Art Studio. That all happens 5-8 p.m.

The Deep Fried Pickle Project is here, too, offering Make-A-Musical-Instrument workshops before and after the Dymond Harding show on Friday. Then, stick around for The Muppets movie, playing at dusk.

Keep your child's love for learning going with a summer reading from the Canton Public Library. Plus, naturalist Jennifer Zaenglein takes tykes through a cool a nature-themed touch tent.

A few more highlights? Check out the America's Most Wanted Car Club, which'll be there Saturday showing off their vintage '20s-'70s racecars. Also, don't miss The Liberty Run: Participants will try to enter the Guinness World Records for "Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Landmarks" (namely: the Statue of Liberty!).

And be sure to end things a high note Saturday night, as a fireworks display lights up the skies.
